It is easily accessible, situated on the ground floor, in a brightly lit, spacious, colourfully decorated room with panoramic views over the town of Ballynahinch and the Mourne Mountains in the distance.

The Library, opened in 2010, consists of;

  • A large open plan multi-purpose area
  • An extensive school archive dating from 1934 - present time
  • Seven networked computers
  • Seating areas
  • Study facilities
  • A plasma screen for class use
  • An extensive range of fiction and non fiction books
  • A reference and careers section
  • A magazine and newspaper section
  • DVDs
  • Kindles
  • iPads

The Library is managed by a full-time professional Librarian (Mrs E Walker).

Opening times are 8am - 4.30pm daily.

Pupils have unlimited supervised access during these times. Library and Information Skills are taught to Year 8,9 and 10 classes.

The range of material available is extensive and varied. Stock is updated throughout the year. We continually promote reading by encouraging visits from authors and literary critics. The Junior Book Club meets weekly and we chat informally about good reads. Pupils participate in the Northern Ireland Children's Book Award scheme which is a pupil led competition to select the Northern Ireland Children's Book Award of the year.

The Library is used for the school council meetings, which are held monthly, and hosts many school events throughout the year.
